Happy Handbag

Happy Bag, Happy HandbagHappy Handbag Scheme

Aim: to provide a handbag to lady in times of extreme hardship or homelessness

Objectives:

  • To receive donations of a handbag, initially for ladies, containing everyday essential hygiene products; _ BEING ACHIEVED
  • To identify genuine outlets in Bristol/Gloucester/Swindon for these bags to be distributed to those in need - ACHIEVED
  • To set up a supply link of donations via word of mouth and Facebook - BEING ACHIEVED
  • To expand donations received to include clothing in a Happy Bag - BEING ACHIEVED
  • To set up drop off points for donated handbags - WE HAVE A DROP OFF POINT IN KINGSWOOD PLUS TESCO SUPERSTORE IN YATE (Customer Services Desk), and QUEDGELEY (GLOUCESTER)  HAPPY HANDBAGS CAN BE COLLECTED UNDER CERTAIN CIRCUMSTANCES

How the scheme works:

  • A person has a handbag that is no longer in use
  • The person, if able, puts lady related personal items into the handbag and drops it off to a designated collection point
  • A handbag charm is attached to the bag being donated along with a parcel label showing the donors name and contact details on one side of the label
  • The donor is also given a bag charm for her handbag if requested
  • A handbag record log is produced by the record holder
  • The handbag is then given to a legitimate, approved outlet and the details of the outlet is recorded on the reverse side of the parcel label
  • This label is then removed and kept with the handbag log

Points to note:

  • There will be full traceability for each handbag donated
  • For handbags received at a drop-off point, if no donor details have been given then the handbag is listed, and recorded under the drop-off point e,g, Tesco Yate Customer Services desk
  • If requested, the donor can be advised which organization received their handbag
  • All handbags donated will be distributed through a legitimate, recognized organization
  • It is hoped that the handbag contents will be donated by the handbag donor
  • If someone does wish to donate to the scheme, but does not have a spare handbag,  then it will be suggested that relative goods be given to be put in any empty handbag received - this system works well during any promotional activity being done. e.g. in a Tesco store
  • Happy Handbag is now at a stage where funding is required for running costs (price of handbag charms. labels etc) and for purchasing items to fill handbags that are donated without contents.
  • We have introduced a system whereby empty handbags donated may be sold on to gain funds for the scheme, or filled with products bought with the  funding

This scheme has been expanded to include Happy Bag for all.
